Everybody that visits this blog must understand that suggestions and feedback are welcomed nevertheless some ground rules exist in order to avoid chaos.
The most important rule of all: Don’t be a jerk. This should be enough for many visitors but in case it’s needed more information, the following sentences should clear that.
As a commenter this is what is required:
-
Weigh in with smart, informed ideas that contribute further to the story.
-
Give useful, constructive criticism. Spot a typo or an error? Let me know and I will correct it.
-
Demonstrate and share the intelligence, wisdom, and humor I know you possess.
- Don’t feed the trolls. Downvote and flag comments instead.
Although I can’t be everywhere at once, here are some of the kinds of comments I am going to do my best to curtail:
-
Promoting your own brand, product, or blog. So you’ve got a climate change solution that will simultaneously solve world poverty. Great for you. However this is not the place for that. Want to tell me anything? Use the feedback form.
-
Impersonating authors or other commenters.
-
Comments that make it clear you didn’t read the article.
-
Comments that are completely out of left field.
-
Threats — no matter how vague — against the author or other commenters.
-
Racism, sexism, homophobia, you get the drift.
-
Trolling.
